Thinking Ahead
Thinking about your own funeral can leave some people feeling a little uneasy. However, more people are finding that pre-planning a funeral offers great emotional and even financial security for them and their families. With funeral pre-planning, families find comfort in knowing that the funeral reflects what their loved one wanted.
This means that increasingly, people are planning their own funerals to lessen the responsibilities for the family at such a difficult time. Funeral pre-planning can make any number of preferences clear, including:
- Your choice of funeral director
- Your church affiliation
- The venue for your funeral service
- Your wishes as to burial or cremation and, in the case of the latter, the placement of your ashes
- Details of a cemetery plot which is already owned, or choice of cemetery where a plot is to be purchased
- Music to be played during the service
- Details of organisations, professional societies, clubs, etc. which must be specifically notified of the funeral details
- Specific wishes important to you
There may also be things you don’t want at your funeral, and these can be made known as well.
If you are considering pre-arranging a funeral, fill out our online form below, or download a Funeral Pre-Planning Form to print. You can also get in touch and we can make a time to go through everything with you (either at your place or ours).
Once you’ve made pre-arrangements, give a copy to your funeral director to keep on file, then keep your plan and any pertinent papers in a safe place. Also, inform a close friend or relative what arrangements have been made and where the information may be found.
