This is extremely sad news to find out almost a year later. Brian I knew for years since I moved to Rotorua in 2002. He would come and tune my piano every year. I was just sitting at home looking at my piano thinking, hmmm, Brian I have not had our 2025 tune yet, I wonder why? Now I know. Brian you will be greatly missed by all your piano tuning clients and friends. Rest in peace. Layne Harvey

Such a memorable day of celebration yesterday. The large gathering was testament to your legacy Brian, and though I did not actually feel you there, we all had a great time and I’m sure looking down on it all, you would have been well pleased. You leave a big hole brother – will love you, always.

Brian was a great friend and had many skills and talents. It is difficult to think that his life has come to an unexpected and sudden end.

He will be missed by all who had known him.
He always tuned Brenda’s piano. The music that flows out of it will now always remind us of this kind gentleman.

Our deepest condolences to Ngaire and the family.

Brian’s mother Nancy and my father Peter were first cousins whose fathers were identical twins.
I loved AuntyNance whose irreverent humour was so like Dads. Those twins must have been real characters to produce kids like
Peter and Nancy. I didn’t know Brian well but his sister Lesley has always been a dear cousin from afar and with the same wicked sense of the ridiculous. Brian’s little sister Christine kindly lent her skills in helping me with my first baby.
So farewell cousin Brian. It looks as though you had a wonderful life of love and music – and lots of laughter I’m sure.

I suppose in a way it’s good that a lot of us don’t know when we’re going to leave this mortal show.
Brian was, in my view, a straight shooter, he had ambitions and lived each day enjoying the air that we all share. Making and promoting his music, photography and keeping up with the play in the toy department, ie flying drones, model planes and being ‘out there’.
We didn’t cross paths that many times in life, mainly at piano tuning time, but enough that I had a good idea of what he was about.
My take was, Brian was a great guy, no dummy, well versed, very talented, cheery and we always had a good banter.
Yet another one of life’s characters that has gone, leaving us the losers.
I convey to Ngaire, Brian’s family and friends my sincere condolences on Brian leaving the building.
He has left his mark in my corner, many years ago he gave me CD’s of him singing and playing his geetar and so he continues to twang, rock and croon on Radio Cindy 107.7FM, Rotorua, until I leave the mic.
May fond and happy memories of Brian last with his loved ones until our the final days.
    Ray Tombs
