TUFFERY, Douglas George: (1942 – September 2025).

Passed peacefully on Wednesday, 17th September 2025, at Resthaven on Burns Street.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Doug. Beloved husband of Kyra. Loving father of Grant and Leigh. Brother of Brian, Norma, John and the late Russel. Loved father in law of Christine. Loved grandfather of Kaitlin, Mathew, Nikki, Kori, Shaun and Shea and great-grandfather of many.

Born in 1942, Doug dedicated his working life to serving his community as a fireman in Invercargill, Hawera, and Rotorua. Known for his unwavering work ethic and commitment to his family, he was a man of quiet strength and integrity.

Doug found joy in the outdoors, especially fishing, where he felt most at peace. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled in those around him—hard work and loyalty. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Messages to the ‘Tuffery Family’ can be sent c/- Grinter’s Funeral Home, 3 Hallys Lane, Cambridge 3434 or in Douglas’s online tribute book on this page.

Doug was farewelled at a private celebration followed by a private cremation on 18th September 2025.

Im a retired Senior Station Officer from Rotorua Fire Station. Sad to hear of Doug’s passing. Doug was a quiet unassuming man, with a dry sense of humour he was well respected by his fellow firefighters. Condolences to his family… RIP Doug

Sorry to hear of Doug’s death. I worked with him in Invercargill where he was my officer for sometime. We also spent time fishing together , much respected by me. Steven
