It is with much sadness that I am saying goodbye to my very dear friend Graham. You were part of the Durbin family for 60++++ years. From our teenage years till now. We shared many happy and fun times together. We will always remember those days with much love. I will miss our phone chats, you still giving me advise after 60 + years. Thank you for your love and friendship they didn’t come any better than ours. Graham may you travel safe on your journey. Till we meet again my friend. Colleen.
It is with great sadness we heard of Graham’s Passing. He was a valued member of the Durbin family for more years than I can remember, and, will always be thought of with much Love. Thanks Graham.
Graham your tenacity kindness and generosity will always be remembered and admired and thank you for all you did for myself and my family rest in peace old mate
To Laurien and family
So sad for your loss. Will miss Graham’s jovial spirit at family outings, his love and knowledge of cars, his Facebook posts usually with a twist and his phone calls if you ever dared to comment. He was quite a character especially with the video camera. He was so supportive to you and those around him and know you will miss him terribly. May it be of some comfort to know he is now at peace and those who know and love you care. Sorry I am unable to be with you today . Sending you much love ❤️ Faye, Kelvin and family xx
Thank you for being my uncle, your generosity of spirit, the laughs you shared and for the fond memories.
I remember the Christmas Days at your place in Balmoral and Sandringham like it was yesterday, as a kid growing up it was the best. I used to love going out to visit you with Mum, driving through the tree-lined streets and playing in the backyard. We had many weekends watching you out at the car racing, cheering you on from trackside and enjoyed dinners at the Auckland Car Club afterwards.
I remember going out on jobs with you before I got my license. Then you helped me into my first car and taught me how to overhaul the engine.
Coming from the old school of hard knocks, I remember you having a can-do no-nonsense approach to things. When the guys at my work were unable to gas-weld a patch over a hole in my gas tank, you simply said, “Give it to me.” When I asked, “Aren’t you going to fill it with water first?” you replied, “Nah, now stand back!” As I watched on, KaBOOM, it blew. I remember thinking to myself, Wow, he didn’t even budge the bugger. Then you casually said, “There ya go, all done!”
I remember working on some renovation jobs together around Auckland, sharing a bit of banter and a few laughs along the way, as well as you had me build your fence, while you were off on other jobs.
You told me that you felt proud when I went back to school and graduated with a degree in Japanese, and although there have been many complications in Japan thereafter, I feel glad that I was able to visit you on occasion, chatting over a hot drink and the bickies that you always used to love.
I sometimes visited you again out on jobs where you always made me feel welcome, sharing your lunch that Laurien had made over a chat and laugh. I’m glad that I was able to visit you for a barbeque before you shifted and again for dinner at your new place, sitting at Uncle Trevor’s old table where many memories were formed. I’m also glad that I was able to help you with railway sleepers in your garden and spend that time together. Equally, thank you for the chat a few weeks ago where we were able to have a catch up as much as circumstances allowed.
You will always be my uncle – you have a special place in my heart and I will carry your spirit and memory with me always.
To Loren and Family. Our family was so sorry to hear of Graham’s passing. We first met Graham 40 years ago when he came to fix something in our 120 year old villa in Mt Albert. He was able to fix anything and his knowledge on building, plumbing , electrical and anything to do with houses was incredible. We don’t know how we would have managed with out his superb ability to solve the issues that came up in both our homes.
Even in his early 70’s he was able to build a new addition to our next place.
His expertise, knowledge and practical solutions were incredible and we had many cups of tea as a friend and a neighbour over what to do next He was one of life’s true gentlemen.
Graham and Loren became friends very early on so our family sends our deepest sympathy and condolences to you all. Will be thinking of you all today.
