Dear Julie
We were so pleased to be able to take part in the celebration of Ken’s life even if only from afar. We did not know Ken well but we still had the greatest respect for him. Now we know him so much better we wish we had had the chance to get to know this very special man a bit more. It was a lovely service and you all did him proud. Clearly he will be sorely missed by all who knew him but it is comforting to know he is now at peace in God’s safe hands.
All our blessings
Tim & June

I wanted to share a memory of Ken, or Kiwi as our family always knew him. Our family traveled from Canada to New Zealand to vacation. Kiwi, Julie, Sean and Sam made us and our two daughters feel so welcome, that the few days we spent with the McKenzie’s was the highlight of our three weeks there.
I recall one afternoon our families went to the beach where we picnicked, explored, splashed in the water, and played a friendly – quickly turned competitive – football game.
I wanted to learn how to surf and Kiwi paddled out past the breakers with me to explain the process. I can hear his voice even now almost 15 years later: “So. You start on your belly, then when a wave is coming, start to kick and paddle like a madman, then jump up onto your hands and knees, then step one foot forward and one back, then stand up. All whilst hurtling down the face of the wave. Go!”
I knew at that moment, what Kiwi knew before we ever left the beach. I was not surfing that day. I looked over at him and we both started to laugh. It was a great day spent with wonderful friends, and one I will hold dear in my memories.
I wish that we did not live so far apart and I wish we could have had more time. But I will not dwell in the regret of what could have been, but rather, will remember with gratitude the times we did spend together and the moments that forged a friendship.
Kiwi, you will be missed by so many. Until we meet again my friend.
