Dear uncle Pierre,
My condoleances to your family. It makes me sad that you’re gone. But it makes me happy when i think of your full life.
We’ve met each other in Ommel when you visited there. But i was a kid, so i don’t really remember ;).
The first time we’ve met for real was 12 years ago, when i came to New Zealand and you picked me up (i believe it was in Rotorua). I spend a couple of days at your place in Mt. Maunganui. I had a blast. Felt like family straight away. You drove me to Andre and Paula for dinner, showed me parts of the land and talked about your past and my Grandparents (Dora and Frans). Later you needed to pick up your 2nd car from the garage and used me to drive it back home. What you did’nt know was that it was my first time driving an automatic and driving left ;). So the first time i touched the brake i made an unexpected emergancy stop. And the first roundabout was an adventure on itself. But we made it back safe so thanks for letting me learn that!
Another memory i have is that we cried tears from laughter when you offered me gingerbread after seeing a comedyshow about gingerbread without you reaizing it.
Later i also met Helen and Geoff and we kept in thouch through the phone.
In the years that followed our contact watered, but Angele kept me posted on your wellbeing. I am also happy to see Andre a couple of times in the past few years when he came to visit in Asten.
Dear uncle Pierre, you were a brave and kind man who left a legacy. Your easy-going, life-enjoying style had a good impact on me. Thank you for the time we had. You will often be remembered.
With kind regards, Dirk Lingg
