Wayne- found memories of you’re humor and of course your advice when it was needed. You taught me some valuable lessons that I still use today. The
approach and attitude you took in your last difficult journey is truly inspirational- You will be missed but not forgotten.

Wayne or Major as I called him was truly a one of a kind special man.
I count myself incredibly lucky to have enjoyed a fabulous friendship with him spanning quite a few years.
It’s one that’s been full of humor, lots of laughs, sharing joys, sorrows & challenges whilst navigating life’s journey.
I will especially remember Major’s tenacity for living a very full life despite enduring the most difficult past few years during his health journey. His unending pragmatism for making the best of every single day he had left, to cram in as much as he possibly could especially investing time with his beloved Grandbean, Bodibear and Princess and catch up with all those Army buddies and others he had held so dear, was enormous!!!
The amazing support he got in return from many of you especially Sandra is indeed a testament to the depth of relationships he’d developed over his life.
I miss our friendship fiercely Major. Your life although cut far too short will be held as an inspiration and a source of strength for me forever.

This is a profound lost, Wayne was immensely proud of having served in our Defense Force, and his ongoing service to Cadet Forces. He was just this week in Christchurch receiving treatment, having greatly defied the doctors expectancy. Wayne gained much happiness in the successes of his former and current Cadets. We salute you and thank you Major Sivern.

Much respect, Major Wayne Henderson, NZCF

I wish I could made the trip up for Wayne’s final farewell. Like a lot of people, Wayne had a positive impact on both my son and I. Wayne was James’ Unit Commander at CCCU. I meet Wayne as one my Team Leaders at NZ Post. Then a few years later when James joined Cadets.
He changed me as a person I will never forget that.
My daughter and I caught up with Wayne on the Tuesday evening before he departed this world. We saw lots of photos of Sandra, the grandkids and Paw Patrol. The things that made him happy.
Thank you for being my friend. Rest easy Sir, you have earned it

Wayne… 35 years I have known you, over that time we have flowed in and out of each others lives. You with that cheeky grin that has never changed and is what I see now in my memory when thinking of you. Rest in peace my friend. My sincere condolences to your family.

I think my Brother’s cheeky smile is one that we’ll all remember he’s had that same smile since he was little.

My thoughts are with friends and family in this difficult time of loss and mourning.
Although we celebrate Wayne’s journey through life it is a sad time as we reflect on what may have been.
All those years ago we all joined the Army as boy soldiers fresh out of school and ready to start
a new adventure in life. Wayne was full of energy for everything he did and always wore a smile easily.
It was great to see the many successes that Wayne had after leaving the Army and the great work he did for
    the Cadet Forces.
Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the celebration of Wayne’s life but he will
be in my thoughts as I pay tribute and enjoy a toast during the time of the service.
Wayne you were a good man and a great family man. You are a brave example to us all as you kept your smile
    over the last few years.
    Gone but never forgotten.

I would like to pay tribute to a great man and mentor, Major Wayne Sivern. “Major Wayne”, as Mum and I called him.
We have only known Major Wayne for a couple of months. He answered a call from my squadron leader back home as I was stuck in Starship Hospital recovering from leukemia and about to take on thyroid cancer.
Although we had only known him for a little while, he showed me what was possible, and he influenced me about my outlook on life after treatment – about being more resilient and enjoying life.
He inspired me to be better than I could be, live life to the fullest, and never look back.
He was someone I could talk to, someone who understood what I was going through, and someone that checked up on Mum and I regularly. He could offer some practical advice and be a sounding ear when I needed it – making sure I was eating and getting better!
All in all, I could say that he was a truly great man, with a caring heart. It was an honor to get to know him and be a small part of his life – because he was a part of mine!
Both mum and I will sadly miss his daily check-ins and visits (he still owes me a game of Monopoly!)

Major Wayne, you will be greatly missed.

I’m pleased you had that time with Wayne he certainly retained his positivity thru out his 12yrs of ongoing treatment. And would have been someone who understood what youre going thru. He enjoyed helping others & no doubt enjoyed his visits with you . Wishing you the very best with your health.
